10 metre Air Pistol joined the World Championships in Phoenix, USA, in 1970 and the Olympics in Seoul, Korea, in 1988. It is governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).
Men, women and juniors compete individually, in teams and in mixed teams at every level. Air Pistol is popular worldwide, and top shooters from other disciplines often return to it to sharpen their skills.
How it's shot
Matches are timed, using a 170 × 170 millimetre target. Men (including juniors) have 105 minutes for 60 shots; women (including juniors) have 75 minutes for 40 shots. Electronic targets now give shooters instant feedback.
