Metallic Silhouette dates back to early 1900s Mexico and grew rapidly in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Competitors knock down steel targets shaped like chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams, set at different scales and distances depending on the match.
Matches are sanctioned by Pistol Australia and the SSAA and contested at club, state, national and international level. SSPC ACT members compete at every level and have won multiple titles.
Matches at SSPC ACT
- Big Bore: centrefire handguns at 50, 100, 150 and 200 metres, with full and half-scale targets.
- Small Bore: rimfire handguns at 25, 50, 75 and 100 metres, with targets at 3/8 and 1/5 of Big Bore scale.
- Field Pistol: a variety of handguns up to and including .45 calibre at 25, 50, 75 and 100 metres, with half-scale Big Bore targets.
