The Membership Process

Thank you for your interest in joining SSPC ACT. Whether you already hold an H class firearms licence or are new to the sport, there's a clear path for you.

SSPC ACT is linked to the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) and is a separately incorporated club at the SSAA Majura Shooting Complex. We support pistol shooters of all abilities, with a strong focus on developing new shooters and juniors. Safety is always our first priority.

Before you start: don't email any documents until you are asked to. All SSPC ACT forms must be completed electronically with a PDF digital signature. Handwritten forms are not accepted.

If you already hold an H class firearms licence

  1. Gather your documents (keep them for now):
    • a National Police Check issued within three months of applying
    • a reference letter from your previous pistol club
    • two character references (letter or email), each including the referee's full name, address and phone number
    • proof of current SSAA membership (required for SSPC ACT membership)
  2. Register your interest by emailing the New Member Coordinator.
  3. Attend an Orientation Tour. Tours run on the second Saturday of each month at 12:30pm from the SSPC ACT Main Club House. There are no tours in December or January.
  4. Complete the Membership Application Form, which is emailed to you after the tour.
  5. Send everything in one email to the New Member Coordinator: your application form and the documents from step 1.
  6. Complete the New Member Interest Form, sent to you once your paperwork has been checked.
  7. Attend a Monthly Committee Meeting. Before the meeting, you'll complete a Safe Handling Assessment with the Chief Instructor, who will email you the details.
  8. Pay your membership fee. The Treasurer emails an invoice after the meeting, and the Secretary confirms once payment is received. See the current membership fees.
  9. Collect your membership card by arranging a time with the New Member Coordinator. You can then use the facilities.
  10. Update your licence if needed. ACT and NSW residents apply to their Firearms Registry to have the firearm class added to their current licence.

If you don't hold an H class firearms licence

  1. Gather your documents (keep them for now):

  2. Register your interest by emailing the New Member Coordinator.
  3. Attend an Orientation Tour on the second Saturday of the month at 12:30pm (no tours in December or January).
  4. Complete the Membership Application Form, which is emailed to you after the tour.
  5. Complete the New Member Interest Form, sent to you once your application has been checked.
  6. Send everything in one email to the New Member Coordinator: your completed forms and the documents from step 1.
  7. Attend a Monthly Committee Meeting, arranged by the New Member Coordinator.
  8. Pay your membership fee. The Treasurer emails an invoice after the meeting, and the Secretary confirms once payment is received. The Chief Instructor will then contact you about Stage 1 training.
  9. Receive your membership card on the first night of Stage 1 training. Read The Training Process to see what comes next.
